DESCRIPTION:
SOLAR: 63.4 kW Ground Mounted Solar PV system on the grounds of Andrews Osborne Academy's Equestrian Center. The system is estimated to provide approx. 30% of the total energy needs of the Equestrian Center. Racking system used is from Youngstown, Oh based Northern States Metals. System utilizes 12 SMA inverters mounted on 2 Towers adjacent to the system. The system was installed in February of 2011.
BIODIESEL: The purpose of the biodiesel class at AOA is to investigate advanced concepts in chemistry using the alternative fuel, biodiesel. Students learn the chemistry-nomenclature, reaction mechanisms, procedure, and testing-behind making biodiesel. After successful small-scale production of biodiesel from used cooking oil, students produce large-scale (40 gallon) batches of the fuel. Once cleaned and tested, the fuel from the large-scale batches is used in the diesel equipment on campus.
Incentive Program(s) Utilized:
Andrews Osborne Academy did not pay for the system, instead they entered into a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) with Developer and Owner Carbon Vision, LLC. Carbon Vision took advantage of the ODOD Advanced Energy Fund as well as the Federal Treasury 1603 cash grant.
Directions to Site:
Follow signs to the Equestrian Center. Park in lot adjacent to solar array. There is a north array, and a south array with inverters near the equestrian entrance.
Someone will be there all hours of the tour to answer questions. If they are not at either array, go to the white garage about 200 feet from the NORTH array where the biodiesel reactor is located.
Estimated Annual Production:
70,000 kWh (or 70 MWh)
