Clean Energy Network Meeting in Trumbull County
Saturday, July 11 at 10:00AM
The Kilpatrick Farm
Hewitt-Gifford Road (west of Todd Ave., SW Warren Township)
Signs will assist
The Kilpatrick Farm in Warren Township is the site of the July meeting of the Clean Energy Network Meeting in Trumbull County on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 10 a.m. The meeting is free and open to the public. The farm is located on Hewitt-Gifford Road, west of Todd Avenue, SW. Warren Township. Signs will assist those attending the meeting. (Address does not accurately identify the location using GoogleMaps/Mapquest, etc)
In late 2006, James Kilpatrick installed a 6.7 kW on-grid photo voltaic (PV) solar array on one of his farm buildings. PV solar converts sunlight into electricity. Kilpatrick will explain the process used to plan the PV system, his experiences with the installation and the results on his electric bills. A question/answer session will follow the presentation. Also, attendees will discuss future meeting topics.
The solar array has proven successful for the Kilpatrick farm. ?The system has operated without problems and has produced about two-thirds of our electric power, while preventing the emission of about 12 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere,? Kilpatrick explains. ?The system is part of a new structure that includes many energy savings features such as on-demand hot water hearing, radiant floor heating, foam insulation and efficient lighting.?
Kilpatrick was born in Warren and is a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. He received a bachelor?s degree in agronomy from The Ohio State University in 1984 and a bachelor?s in education from the University of Akron in 1982. He was a research assistant at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster for five years and has been a grain farmer since 1976, planting and harvesting corn, wheat and soybeans. With his wife Mary, Kilpatrick has three married children and four grandchildren.
Clean Energy Network in Trumbull County is a group dedicated to increasing awareness in sustainability, green building and renewable energy technologies by bringing together like-minded people in the area. The Clean Energy Network in Trumbull County is a regional affiliate of Green Energy Ohio.

' Weatherization Tips & Strategies Save You $$ '
Thursday, January 29th, 6:15 - 7: 30 PM
Progressive Field
2401 Ontario Street, Cleveland
Join GEO this month as we invite the Ohio Consumers' Counsel to our January Clean Energy Network Meeting hosted by the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. Given the state of the economy, many consumers' New Year's resolutions will involve saving money. "With today's tough economy, residential consumers need to be able to control their energy bills throughout the upcoming winter, said Janine Migden-Ostrander, Consumers' Counsel. "By learning easy and effective ways to lower utility usage, consumers will be able to prepare for the cold weather and higher utility prices?"
Through the weatherization workshop, consumers can learn how to lower their utility bills by using low-cost or no-cost energy saving tips in their homes. Installing plastic on windows, weather stripping a door, installing a door sweep, and learning about the benefits of using compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and programmable thermostats are just some of the key components of the program.
RSVP REQUIRED by January 27th. Email Athan Barkoukis at: athan@greenenergyohio.org Parking: Park in the Players Parking Lot at the corner of East 9th & Carnegie Ave. A guard will direct you to the meeting room.

'Status of Renewable Energy in Ohio'
Tuesday, January 27th from 7:00 - 8:30 PM
Kent State University Trumbull Campus
Technology Building, Room 117
4314 Mahoning Ave., NW, Warren
Reflecting at the close of 2008, the adoption of an Ohio Renewable Portfolio Standard enacted in May activated the critical public policy change needed to create one of the nation?s largest state green energy markets. But by Fall, the nation's and world's stock markets collapsed. However, while consumer confidence in the economy plummeted, the ramping up a new green economy in Ohio and the nation leaped upward. In early October, the Congress, as part of the economic rescue law, included extended and new tax credits for investment in solar, wind and other forms of green energy. As the country enters 2009, and Americans looked to a new President for leadership in the economic crisis, how does the green economy fit in? Join Outreach and Education Specialist from Ohio Consumers? Counsel (www.pickocc.org), Chris Verich, as he explores the status of renewable energy in Ohio.
