2009 Green Energy Ohio Solar Hot Water Training Programs

Overview:

Green Energy Ohio (GEO) partnered with four technical and community colleges across Ohio in 2009 to increase growth in the clean energy sector by building the local capacity of a trained labor force in the solar thermal industry.  These statewide solar thermal training programs were supported by The Ohio Department of Development - Ohio Energy Office and site sponsors, including Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, Owens Community College, Cuyahoga Community College and Hocking College

A total of 86 participants attended the four solar thermal training programs.  Many of these participants are now incorporating solar thermal into their business.  A list of contractors eligible to provide funding for residential solar thermal rebates through the GEO Residential Solar Thermal Rebate Program can be found on the 'SOLAR THERMAL REBATE' webpage.  GEO is currently identifying partners and funding for additional solar thermal training programs in 2010.

Solar Thermal Training Program Description:
Learn how to design and install a solar thermal system for commercial and residential buildings. These three-day training programs cover solar resource fundamentals, solar thermal applications, components, codes and standards, and federal/state grants and incentives. These courses include hands-on installation of a solar thermal system.

Note 1: Each training program will count toward some of the NABCEP prerequisites to sit for their Solar Thermal Installer exam.

Note 2:  Certain requirements are needed in order to be eligible to receive grants through the Ohio Dept. of Development- Ohio Energy Office's Advanced Energy Program to install solar thermal systems.  DETAILS
