"Renewable Energy for Mansfield"

Over 30 Richland County residents were enthusiastic about the wind & solar installations in the county and the opportunity for more projects. GEO Speaker, Bill Spratley, gave the Renew Ohio! presentation, indicating it was the first of many planned for every county in the state. Bill also explained the plans for a Visitor's Center at Malabar Farm State Park that will include solar PV and a wind turbine along with an educational exhibit. The group suggested that a "Clean Energy Network" be formed and future meetings be held at the Brain Tree Center along with an email listserve to serve the network.

January 10, 2006 "Renewable Energy for Lourdes College" Lucas County
Lourdes College Speaker: Don Scherer
GEO speaker, Don Scherer, covered the applications of renewable energy in Ohio and Lucas County along with the possibilities for a sustainable energy venture. The 30-person audience was very interested in wind development in the region, with questions on testing, wildlife and ownership. Several Sisters from Saint Frances were interested in engaging the College in clean energy iniatives.

February 16, 2006 "Renewable Energy for Wooster" Wayne County
Wooster League of Women Voters Speaker: Bill Spratley

Over 120 people filled the large fellowship room at Trinity United Church of Christ in Wooster to learn about using and promoting alternative sources of energy. Bill Spratley, GEO Executive Director, gave a comprehensive presentation that highlighted the current status of renewable energy in Ohio. Guests learned about the First Solar Manufacturing plant near Toledo, the first commercial wind turbines in Bowling Green, GEO's wind assessment program and the future of workforce development with the growth of the clean energy industry. Bill also highlighted a local example of sustainability with the new Unitarian Universalist Fellowship building that was built using many "green" features and in the process to become LEED-certified. A local "GEO network" is now being formed based on the enthusiastic response.

March 16, 2006 "Renewable Energy for Fulton County" Fulton County
Northwest State Community College Speaker: Joe Perlaky

GEO speaker, Joe Perlaky, addressed over 60 people at the Northwest State Community College on renewable energy in Ohio and responding to many questions about wind development in the area. The meeting was hosted by the College?s Education for Sustainability Committee, which holds regular lectures on sustainability topics. Oberlin College Speaker: Bill Spratley
GEO Executive Director Bill Spratley spoke to a mix of students, faculty and local residents at Oberlin College April 13, 2006 about renewable energy in the area and across Ohio. During the green energy presentation, Spratley discussed solar and wind technologies and their feasibility in Lorain County.

April 20, 2006 "Renewable Energy for Vandalia" Montgomery County
Vandalia Rotary Club Speaker: John Norton

John Norton, a Green Energy Ohio Board member, addressed approximately 55 people about the benefits of renewable energy at the regular lunchtime meeting of the Vandalia Rotary Club, April 20, 2006.  This audience of business professionals paid rapt attention to the message of renewable (green) energy already functioning well, and economically here in Ohio.  There were several questions on the price of the Bowling Green wind turbines and the best source for information on home installations..

April 22, 2006 "Renewable Energy for Westerville" Franklin County

More than 50 students gathered at 9 am on a Saturday morning at Otterbein College to celebrate Earth Day by listening to a Green Energy Ohio Renew Ohio! presentation, followed by community enrichment activities all around the city of Westerville. The students were quite enthusiastic about the renewable energy presentation that promotes the use of alternative sources of energy, and several students stayed afterwards to ask questions about renewables in Ohio and to sign up for information. It was impressive to see so many students get out of bed that early on a Saturday and to be so excited about renewable energy and environmental activities as well!

In celebration of Earth Day on a sunny day in Athens, GEO Board President Michelle Greenfield spoke to Athens Earth Day festival participants about renewable energy in Ohio. The enthusiastic crowd had many questions for Michelle, including inquiries about insurance and durability of renewable energy applications.

April 24, 2006 "Renewable Energy for Wapakoneta" Auglaize County
Wapakoneta Rotary Club Speaker: Joe Perlaky
GEO Board member Joe Perlaky spoke to almost 40 attendees about renewable energy in Wapakoneta at the regular lunchtime meeting of the Rotary Club, at the Moose Lodge April 24, 2006. The meeting was shared with the Northwest Ohio representative of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel, who spoke to the crowd about energy efficiency. Another good turn-out for GEO, with many questions following the program and several follow-up email requests the following day.

John Norton, a GEO Board member, and Ray Foeller, from the Office of the Ohio Consumers Counsel, spoke to approximately 50 people at the regular lunchtime meeting of the Miamisburg Rotary Club, April 26, 2006.  This audience of business professionals not only listened attentively to the message of renewable (green) energy and energy efficiency, they stayed well beyond the time allotted for the talk and asked several questions about wind turbines and pricing, and the best source for information on home installations of solar panels and wind turbines.

May 9, 2006 "Energy Wake Up Call!" Erie County
BGSU Firelands Campus Speaker: Bill Spratley

At the Huron meeting organized by GEO Board member Mark Norman of the House on Third Street, GEO Board member Joe Perlaky joined GEO Executive Director Bill Spratley in addressing an audience of more than 30 people, including several public officials and community leaders, about emerging renewable energy in Erie County. Firelands Dean Jim Smith, also related the developing plans for several small wind turbines on the campus property from the recent Marcy Kaptur wind budget earmarks. GEO is impressed by the green building and green energy interest in the Sandusky area, which attracts more than 8 million people per year to the North Coast entertainment sites.

More than 80 people gathered at the Millersburg Public Library in Holmes County to hear GEO Executive Director Bill Spratley discuss renewable energy in Ohio - another great turnout from our new GEO volunteers in the Wayne-Holmes area. Among the crowd were three Amish solar installers, including Jake Raeber with the Lighthouse solar store. Raeber said he sells between 75-100 panels per year, mostly for individual Amish home and business applications to charge batteries. That would make Homes County the location for the most per capita residential solar units in Ohio!

On June 2, GEO Board member AAron Godwin and a representative from the office of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel spoke to the Youngstown Kiwanis Club and area residents about renewable energy and energy efficiency. The Mahoning County residents not only ilstened attentively to the clean energy message, but also asked several questions following the presentation.

June 15, 2006 "Renewable Energy For New Philadelphia" Tuscarawas County
Schoenbrunn Community Moravian Church Speaker: Bill Spratley

GEO Executive Director Bill Spratley spoke to more than 30 New Philadelphia residents about renewable energy at the Tuscarawas Renew Ohio! presentation on June 15. Spratley discussed the options that exist for Ohioans to use wind, solar and biomass, and showed examples of applications working in Ohio right now! Also discussed were online tools to determine the resources in Tuscarawas County, and the financial incentives for projects. Special thanks to Eric Reip for coordinating the presentation locally.

GEO Executive Director Bill Spratley spoke to more than 30 Butler County residents during a regular meeting of the Hamilton Kiwanis Club on June 28. The crowd was enthusiastic about the clean energy message as Spratley discussed clean energy initiatives in the area and around the Buckeye state.
