Over 30 Richland County residents were enthusiastic about the wind & solar installations in the county and the opportunity for more projects. GEO Speaker, Bill Spratley, gave the Renew Ohio! presentation, indicating it was the first of many planned for every county in the state. Bill also explained the plans for a Visitor's Center at Malabar Farm State Park that will include solar PV and a wind turbine along with an educational exhibit. The group suggested that a "Clean Energy Network" be formed and future meetings be held at the Brain Tree Center along with an email listserve to serve the network.

The 30-person audience was very interested in wind development in the region, with questions on testing, wildlife and ownership. Several Sisters from Saint Frances were interested in engaging the College in clean energy iniatives. |

Over 120 people filled the large fellowship room at Trinity United Church of Christ in Wooster to learn about using and promoting alternative sources of energy. Bill Spratley, GEO Executive Director, gave a comprehensive presentation that highlighted the current status of renewable energy in Ohio. Guests learned about the First Solar Manufacturing plant near Toledo, the first commercial wind turbines in Bowling Green, GEO's wind assessment program and the future of workforce development with the growth of the clean energy industry. Bill also highlighted a local example of sustainability with the new Unitarian Universalist Fellowship building that was built using many "green" features and in the process to become LEED-certified. A local "GEO network" is now being formed based on the enthusiastic response. |

The meeting was hosted by the College?s Education for Sustainability Committee, which holds regular lectures on sustainability topics. More than 50 students gathered at 9 am on a Saturday morning at Otterbein College to celebrate Earth Day by listening to a Green Energy Ohio Renew Ohio! presentation, followed by community enrichment activities all around the city of Westerville. The students were quite enthusiastic about the renewable energy presentation that promotes the use of alternative sources of energy, and several students stayed afterwards to ask questions about renewables in Ohio and to sign up for information. It was impressive to see so many students get out of bed that early on a Saturday and to be so excited about renewable energy and environmental activities as well!

The meeting was shared with the Northwest Ohio representative of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel, who spoke to the crowd about energy efficiency. Another good turn-out for GEO, with many questions following the program and several follow-up email requests the following day. |

At the Huron meeting organized by GEO Board member Mark Norman of the House on Third Street, GEO Board member Joe Perlaky joined GEO Executive Director Bill Spratley in addressing an audience of more than 30 people, including several public officials and community leaders, about emerging renewable energy in Erie County. Firelands Dean Jim Smith, also related the developing plans for several small wind turbines on the campus property from the recent Marcy Kaptur wind budget earmarks. GEO is impressed by the green building and green energy interest in the Sandusky area, which attracts more than 8 million people per year to the North Coast entertainment sites. |

More than 80 people gathered at the Millersburg Public Library in Holmes County to hear GEO Executive Director Bill Spratley discuss renewable energy in Ohio - another great turnout from our new GEO volunteers in the Wayne-Holmes area. Among the crowd were three Amish solar installers, including Jake Raeber with the Lighthouse solar store. Raeber said he sells between 75-100 panels per year, mostly for individual Amish home and business applications to charge batteries. That would make Homes County the location for the most per capita residential solar units in Ohio! |
