AMP-Ohio Green Pricing Program Makes Top-10 List

by Pam Sullivan, Director of Marketing & Development

March 8, 2004 AMP-Ohio Weekly Update

AMP-Ohio has made the Top-10 list in one of the categories established by the Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).  The laboratory released its annual ranking of leading utility "green pricing" programs last week, coverning the more than 500 utilities in 33 states that currently offer green pricing programs.

Using information provided by the utilities, NREL develops "Top 10" rankings of the programs in four categories: total sales of renewable energy to program participants, total number of customer participants, customer participation rate, and the lowest price premium charged for a green pricing service.

AMP-Ohio announced its program last May - a partnership with Green Mountain Energy Co. to market the Nature's Energy renewable product.  Because the first community program was launched just last month [Cuyahoga Falls], AMP-Ohio's program couldn't qualify for most of the NREL categories.

However, the AMP-Ohio Nature's Energy program was ranked 10th on the list of price premium charged for customer-driven renewable power.  The 1.3 centss per kilowatt-hour premium makes the program one of the lowest-cost in the nation.  AMP-Ohio's green pricing program is available to all member communities.
