BGSU Wind Project 2.0, January 15, 2004

A group of 30 Bowling Green State University (BGSU) students under the direction of GEO Board Member Don Scherer, Professor Charlene Waggoner and BGSU graduate student Ben Dixon are researching many variables associated to adding more wind turbines to the Bowling Green landscape.

With the support of the Ohio Office of Energy Efficiency, GEO is sponsoring this important project to facilitate information between wind farm developers, landowners and the public. GEO hopes this research will recommend 15 - 20 sites for additional turbines and provide solutions to any issues raised in their construction.

The BGSU Wind Project will:

As the BGSU Wind Project class began its work on January 15, 2004, several experts talked to students about issues surrounding the siting of wind turbines.  The meeting at BGSU included:
Daryl Stockburger, Director of Bowling Green Municipal Utilities
Jim Carter, Wood County County Commission Chair
              Bill Spratley, Green Energy Ohio

After presentations the students met in small groups with the experts to discuss research the wind assessment map, landowner lease provisions for wind power, construction and economic issues and communications with the community.  See photos of January 15 meeting below:
