Session 2

Microgrid Value Stacking

Now that we know what a microgrid is and what it can do, how do we determine whether it is the right fit for your community? In this one hour session, we will be reviewing the stack of values behind a microgrid.

This Value Stack includes:

  • Resilience: Microgrids allow for reliable power beyond backup generators and give the opportunity to enhance and provide power back to the local grid

  • Savings: Microgrids help offset energy costs, especially costly demand charges

  • Security: Microgrids are both cyber- and physically secure by being designed to “island” themselves when attacked thus hardening critical infrastructure

  • Revenue: Microgrids are not a cost, they are an investment that pays for itself and provides the opportunity to produce an additional revenue stream
